Case Study: Aulet Restaurant Shymkent — 120 Seats in 7 Weeks

How we furnished a 120-seat restaurant in Shymkent — from sign-off to installation in seven weeks, and why two years later there still hasn't been a single repair.

Aulet Restaurant in Shymkent is the project we point to when explaining what correctly specified restaurant furniture actually means. Not beautiful — correct. Two years of intensive operation, 120 seats, two full seatings a day. Not one chair has needed repair.

The Brief

A restaurant with a strong Eastern-inspired interior, heavy on dark wood and metal finishes. The client needed chairs that fit the concept visually and could handle a Shymkent restaurant's workload — two seatings a day, open every day of the week. Budget was mid-segment, with no compromise on quality.

Choosing the Construction

A metal-frame chair with velvet upholstery. Frame: 2 mm steel, arc-welded — no bolted joints, which loosen within six months of intensive use. Legs: fitted with plastic caps to protect the flooring. Upholstery: abrasion-resistant velvet. It's not the most practical choice for a kitchen pass-through, but in the dining room with proper care it holds its shape and colour for years. We walked the client through the care protocol: neutral cleaner, no alcohol or chlorine, regular brushing. Two years on, the upholstery is in its original condition.

Why There Hasn't Been a Single Repair

When furniture comes back for repair, it's almost never a manufacturing defect. It's either the wrong cleaning products (chemicals that break down the coating) or mechanical stress beyond the rated load (standing on chairs, tip-overs at 130+ kg). For Aulet we specified a frame rated to 150 kg against the standard restaurant rating of 120 kg. That margin adds roughly 8-12% to the chair price. It pays for itself within the first year.

Timeline

Specification sign-off: 5 days. Production in Istanbul: 28 days (smaller runs, under 200 units, move faster than large hotel orders). Shipping and customs: 16 days. Installation: 1 day. Total from confirmed order to opening: 50 days. Allowing buffer for colour and fabric approval, we recommend budgeting 60 days for a restaurant project.
