Room furniture works differently from home furniture: hundreds of guests use the room each year, and each uses it in their own way — sits on the edge of the desk, drops a heavy suitcase on the bedside table, drags the armchair across the floor. For seating in public and contract use there are European strength and durability requirements — EN 16139, with test methods in EN 1728: seats and backs are loaded through repeated cycles and stability against tipping is checked. For a room, plan these margins: a luggage rack for a suitcase of 30 kg or more, with a wall guard; a stable desk with a top that resists hot cups and scratches; a headboard securely fixed to the wall or the bed; protective glides on legs so floors are not scratched. Rounded corners and edges mean both safety and fewer chips during cleaning.

Which materials suit a hotel room?

Chair and armchair frames: solid beech or metal; case goods: hard-wearing finishes and protected edges. Room upholstery is usually specified at around 20,000–30,000 Martindale cycles or more: the load is lower than in a restaurant, but colour fastness to sunlight by the window and cleanability matter.
